Exciting British Watches to Look Out for in 2024

Time+Tide is excited to share that we’ve opened our new Discovery Studio in the heart of London at Oxford Circus.

Our kickoff event, the British Watchmakers’ Weekender, showcased 16 prominent British watch brands, attracting over 600 participants who mingled with brand representatives and explored their stunning creations.

This event was made possible through our partnership with the British Watchmakers’ Alliance, the group behind the highly successful British Watchmakers’ Day earlier this year, all aimed at uplifting the watchmaking scene in the UK.

During these gatherings, we gained incredible insights into the latest offerings from British watchmakers.

Here are five standout pieces that illustrate the lively and diverse world of British watchmaking, showcasing a community that is carving its unique identity apart from traditional Swiss influences.

Standout Pieces in British Watchmaking

  • Beaucroft Element

I’ve had several opportunities to get acquainted with the Beaucroft Element, and I genuinely admire its value as an all-stainless steel sports watch.

The brand, based in Cambridge, adds a splash of color to its designs, making them very appealing to those who like a bit of flair.

While it might draw some initial comparisons to the Rolex Oyster Perpetual (OP), it’s important to remember that they exist in different price ranges.

Still, at under £649, it stands out as a fantastic everyday watch. Price: £649 (~US$820)

  • Farer Field Collection

The excitement surrounding Farer’s latest Field collection has been palpable within the Time+Tide team.

This collection showcases impeccable detail and a thoughtful design process, demonstrating the brand’s commitment to enhancing its offerings while staying true to the aesthetic that first captivated its audience.

With three subtle dial options to choose from, this refreshed collection is sure to attract enthusiasts. Price: £1,095 (~US$1,400)

  • Studio Underd0g 03 Series Salm0n

While Studio Underd0g’s quirky Hand Delivered Pizza Watch caught attention, our pick is the Salm0n, a brilliant example of their innovative spirit in challenging industry norms.

Although it’s the most expensive watch they’ve produced to date, the Salm0n features a Swiss movement paired with an elegantly crafted dial, making it well worth the investment. Price: £1,700 (~US$2,200)

  • Vertex M36

After a few weeks of wearing the Vertex M36, I can confidently say it might be my favorite watch of the year.

With a legacy of over 80 years in field watch design, Vertex has successfully downsized the beloved M100A into a charming 36mm size.

This compact redesign, along with three interchangeable strap options, allows for seamless transitions between different settings.

Plus, the luminous numeral blocks ensure visibility even in low light. Price: £2,150 (~US$2,700)

  • Christopher Ward Bel Canto Classic

In the UK watchmaking scene, Christopher Ward’s Bel Canto has carved out a remarkable niche over the last decade.

This year, under the guidance of Mike France, the brand unveiled the Bel Canto Classic, a refined take on its predecessor.

Featuring a guilloché patterned dial available in four striking colors and elegant Roman numerals on the sub-dial, this watch exudes sophistication.

The initial release stirred significant interest, and the ongoing demand for the Bel Canto line continues to grow. Price: £3,495 (~US$4,400)

Conclusion

In highlighting these selections, we celebrate the innovative spirit pulsating within British watchmaking, recognizing their contributions to the horological world as we step into 2024.
