Timex is wrapping up its Giorgio Galli “S” collection with the introduction of the Giorgio Galli S2Ti.
The mind behind the collection, Giorgio Galli, serves as Timex Group’s Creative Director and brings three decades of watch design experience to the table.
This series is particularly special, as it marks the only collection he has crafted under his own name in partnership with Timex.
Galli’s approach to the S series is deeply personal; he designs watches that reflect his own tastes and preferences.
Drawing from his Italian roots, he infuses each piece with inspirations from travel, architecture, and photography.
The Evolution of the S Collection
The journey of the Giorgio Galli S collection began in 2019 with the launch of the Timex Giorgio Galli S1.
The S1 came in multiple versions, including a 38mm option and a gold-tone model that was unveiled in 2022.
A standout feature from the original design was a set ruby at the center of the dial, which I suggested to Galli and ultimately made the watch more distinct.
Although these were the priciest Timex models at the time, retailing for less than $1,000, the S series cleverly combined striking design with premium materials and innovative features, all while remaining accessible to watch enthusiasts.
As we moved into 2023, the original S1 made way for the Timex Giorgio Galli S2.
The S2 retained the beloved 38mm size but proudly unveiled a complete redesign, showcasing a fresh dial and upgraded to a Swiss Made automatic movement from Sellita.
The new model marries steel and titanium elegantly and features a sophisticated dial that reflects Galli’s passion for photography.
Now, as we approach 2025, Timex has launched the limited-edition Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti.
With only 500 pieces available, this watch is undeniably a stunner, although it comes with a heftier price tag—twice that of the S2 and more than four times the original S1, which debuted at $450.
Still, considering the market, the S2Ti stands strong in terms of value.
Design and Features
The S2Ti captivates with its aesthetic charm.
While preferences for size and color can greatly differ, Galli’s design is difficult to criticize.
My only point of contention is the crown, which requires more torque to turn than I expected.
However, this is a minor issue, especially since it’s an automatic timepiece that doesn’t need frequent hand-winding.
One of the most remarkable aspects of the S2 Ti is its dial concept.
It presents a minimalist facade at first glance, but a closer look reveals a thoughtful play of shapes and textures that make for a highly legible watch face.
Although polished hands might often obscure readability, they stand out beautifully against the matte dial and surrounding marker ring, adding an extra shine.
The watch’s unique case curvature and the box-style sapphire crystal, which forms a bezel around the case, enhance its overall feel, giving the impression of a larger watch despite the 38mm size.
The elegant gray tone of the watch not only pairs exceptionally well with various outfits but also complements the darker gray hue of titanium, which differs markedly from stainless steel.
The case primarily features titanium, bolstered by a matching bracelet, while the central section showcases a textured black carbon composite.
This combination reduces weight and adds visual intrigue, enhancing its sophisticated profile.
The S2 Ti’s dimensions include a 38mm width, a 46mm lug-to-lug span, 18mm lugs, and a commendable water resistance up to 50 meters.
Maintaining elements from the S1, the design has extended skeletonization to the bracelet, now featuring stylish cut-out links.
A notable upgrade leading to the S2 Ti’s higher price point is the newly designed bracelet, which incorporates quick-release spring bars for effortless customization.
The titanium bracelet consists of “I-Size” links, allowing for easy adjustments without tools—something I found refreshingly user-friendly, enabling me to fit it to my wrist effortlessly.
Movement and Final Thoughts
Galli’s minimalist design philosophy is also reflected in the butterfly-style deployant clasp on the bracelet, which elegantly hides any indications of a buckle underneath, maintaining a clean look.
I typically lean toward larger timepieces, yet the proportions of the S2 Ti offer a satisfying balance that I found appealing.
The transition from the Japanese Miyota 9000 movement in the S1 to the Swiss Made Sellita SW200-1 automatic movement in the Timex Giorgio Galli S2 is significant.
Operating at 4Hz, this movement boasts an impressive power reserve of about two days.
The custom-designed black rotor, along with its intricate mechanics, is visible through the sapphire case back.
In addition, Timex has thoughtfully included descriptive text on both the case back and the dial, aiding in clarity for future collectors.
Ultimately, while a price tag nearing $2,000 for a Timex might seem steep to some, it offers considerable value when compared to other watches aimed at enthusiasts in the market.
Appreciation for such a piece really comes down to perspective.
The Timex Giorgio Galli S2Ti TW2Y27500, available as a limited edition of 500 pieces, retails for $1,950 USD.
