Introducing The Gimlet Watch

Since its founding in 2020, the Alliance of British Watch and Clock Makers has emerged as a key player in cultivating a vibrant and collaborative horological community throughout the UK.

This organization is known for hosting the annual British Watchmaker’s Day event, which saw its debut in 2024.

Mark your calendars for the next edition on March 8, 2025, where one of the biggest draws for watch enthusiasts will be the showcase of exclusive limited-edition watches.

Among these remarkable pieces is “The Gimlet,” a joint creation from Studio Underd0g and Fears that beautifully melds the unique aesthetics of both British watchmaking brands.

Design and Craftsmanship

Last year, Fears made waves by collaborating with Christopher Ward to bring the Alliance 01 to life, ingeniously combining the iconic cushion-shaped case of the Fears Brunswick with an innovative jumping-hours movement.

For 2025, Fears is again leaning on its beloved Brunswick as a base, but this time it’s partnering with Studio Underd0g.

Together, they’ve given birth to “The Gimlet,” offering a fresh twist on Fears’ renowned design.

Instead of merely adapting the Fears Brunswick to fit Studio Underd0g’s style, this limited-edition timepiece serves as a Fears-inspired interpretation of Underd0g’s 02Series, integrating hallmark features from the Brunswick line.

The craftsmanship of “The Gimlet” is top-notch, made from durable 316L stainless steel.

The watch showcases a cushion-shaped case, reminiscent of the classic Fears Brunswick, with a 38mm diameter and a thickness of 12mm (or 9.7mm when you exclude the domed sapphire crystal).

An onion-shaped winding crown, elegantly positioned at the 3 o’clock mark, complements the design.

The watch’s compact aesthetics are accentuated by short, Brunswick-style lugs, spaced 20mm apart, resulting in a snug lug-to-lug length of 43.5mm.

With a water resistance of up to 100 meters, this timepiece is well-equipped for various adventures.

A solid stainless steel case back features a tasteful engraving of a lime slice, cleverly nodding to the cocktail theme that inspired the watch’s creation.

Movement and Features

The hour markers on the dial echo the signature style found in the Fears Brunswick collection, while the overall dial design takes inspiration from Studio Underd0g’s 02Series.

In a departure from the traditional sub-dial for indicating running seconds as seen in the 38mm Brunswick models, “The Gimlet” employs three central hands to display the time.

The dial is crafted from a 1mm-thick sapphire sheet, firmly fastened to a base layer and showcasing a fully luminous gradient finish.

This clever design lets the hour markers appear to float above the dial surface, with illumination from beneath ensuring optimal readability even in low-light settings.

Unlike the Brunswick models that feature La Joux-Perret movements, “The Gimlet” is powered by the Sellita Caliber SW210-1, the same movement found in Studio Underd0g’s 02Series.

This caliber operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and boasts a respectable power reserve of 42 hours, with an accuracy of -7 to +7 seconds daily.

For added elegance, the watch is fitted with a sleek leather strap designed by The Strap Tailor, tapering from 20mm to 16mm, and crafted from rich dark green calfskin through an intricate multi-stage tanning process.

Retailing at £1,000 GBP (approximately $1,250 USD), “The Gimlet” is limited to just 200 pieces.

Securing one of these exclusive watches will likely require attendance at British Watchmakers’ Day 2025.
